Zamorčica - The Green Zadar

$74.95
sold out

This green fig was given to me by a lovely Baba (Croatian Grandmother) who came to Sydney from Zadar, Croatia in the 70s. She told me it was a “zelena smokva” which is Croatian for green fig and it survived a flight all the way from Zargreb to Sydney more than four decades ago. I initially called it the Green Zadar but after some detective work from a fellow fig collector in Western Australia (also with Croatia heritage) we have identified it as Zamorčica. It’s a lovely sweet fig with quite thin skin which makes it easy to peel. Given the thin skin, once picked it doesn’t travel well so it should be eaten straight away.
